MISSION STATEMENT

Promoting sustainable food production in a healthy environment through efficient service delivery


The Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives was established as one of the core Ministries in the State at inception of the State on the 27th may, 1967.

The Ministry was initially known as Ministry of Agriculture, Trade and Industry and later separated into two;

namely Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources and the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.

In 1979, the name was changed to the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives to emphasize the importance of cooperative movement in agricultural production.

The Ministry at present has 8 nos Department, 2 nos. Units and 4 nos. Parastatals under its supervision. The Departments are:

Agricultural Planning, Research and Statistics

Agricultural Services

Veterinary Services

Fisheries Services

Forestry Services

Cooperative and Agric. Insurance

All the Departments are headed by Directors, the Units by Grade Level 14 officers and the Parastatals by General Managers. They all report to the Honourable Commissioner through the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry.
