The Ministry which has four Departments and a Parastatal (Lagos State Sports Council) has a workforce of 371.

The breakdown of the Departmental Staff strength are as follows:

The Ministry of Youth, Sports and Social Development is saddled with the following statutory responsibilities

(i) Sports
(ii) Relations with National Sports Commission

(iii) Relations with Sporting Organizations

(iv)  Supervision of Lagos State Sports Council
(v)  Youth Clubs

(vi)  Youth Development Matters

Citizenship and leadership Training

• Youth Exchange Programmes

National Youth Award Scheme and others

(vii) National Youth Day Celebrations

(viii) Identification and Design of Open Spaces for Recreational purposes

(ix) Relations with National Orientation Agency

(x) Social Welfare including Family and Juvenile Welfare Services, Schools Social Works, Adult Probation Services and Children Matters

(xi) Adoption and Foster Care of Children

(xii) Institutional Care of Juvenile Delinquents

(xiii) Rehabilitation and Vocational Training of destitute and Handicapped Persons

(xiv) Institutional Care of the Aged

(xv) Supervision and Monitoring Social Welfare Committee

(xvi) Relations with National and State Social Workers.
