The Permanent Secretary Lagos State Ministry of Science of Technology, Engr. Fausat Masha has reinstated the commitment of the State Government to the development of science education in the State.
Speaking while declaring open an ICT workshop organized for science teachers in the State, Engr. Masha said that the development of any nation requires a well trained work force; therefore an highly qualitative education must be put in place early enough in all schools.
According to her, “The teaching of modern science in our schools cannot be restricted to the same old classical textbooks; rather, has to be done by the exposure of our students to modern scientific literatures capable of conveying the latest advances in technology to them”.
She disclosed that about 100 senior secondary schools in the State has been equipped with Information and Communication Technology laboratories and modern science equipment with a view to equipping all secondary schools in the State with such facilities soonest.
She further stated that the administration of Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN) has also recruited more science teachers so as to ensure modern teaching of science subjects in schools in the State.
She congratulated all the participants that have been selected for the workshop and charge them to employ the best practices in teaching for imparting the knowledge they acquire on their students being the hope and future of the nation.
Also speaking earlier, the facilitator of the workshop, Mrs. Edna Agusto commended the Lagos State Government for organizing such a workshop for its teachers adding that knowledge is no longer restricted to textbooks in this age.
She said that the benefits of the workshop transcend the shore of this nation for the teachers and will enhance their professional qualification.
The workshop being organized for science teachers by the Lagos State Ministry of Science and Technology will train 450 science teachers after which a professional examination will be conducted for the participants and all successful teachers will be given an IC3 certificate which is an internationally recognized certificate. |
