Teachers’ Establishment and Pensions Office (TEPO) was created in March, 2005 following the reform of the Education Sector.
It metamorphosed from the post Primary Teaching Service Commission (PP-TESCOM) derived from Section 14, Education Reform Law 2005.
For effective management of the Post-Primary School System in Lagos State and other connected purposes, the Reform Law state that the Head of service through the Teachers’ Establishment and Pensions Office gives guidelines on all Establishment and Training matters concerning all the teaching and non-teaching staff within the Districts in conformity with the other service.
TEPO has responsibility for the training of the teaching staff on Grade Level 13 and above. This is to ensure standardization and uniformity so that the scarce resources are judiciously utilized.
The Office is represented at the Personnel Management Board Committees of both Senior and Junior staff Education in the Districts.
In a nut shell, the Head of Service, through TEPO shall issue guidelines to the Tutor-General/Permanent Secretary for each District to appoint, re-absorb, post, confirm appointment, promote, transfer within the District, discipline and recommend for dismissal all teaching and non-teaching staff in the State Teaching Service in Secondary School, Teachers and Technical Colleges and Schools of Basic Studies controlled by the State (Section 14, Education Reform Law.)
