Pursuant to the new National Policy on Education, which among other things stipulates the Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) as the basic qualification for teaching in Nigeria by the year 2000, coupled with the need to provide functional and qualitative education predicated upon well trained and sound professional manpower to the citizenry of the state, the Lagos state government in December, 1994 established the Lagos State College of Primary Education (LACOPED) for pre-service and in-service training and certification of graduates for the Primary School System.
LACOPED, SITUATED IN Noforija, KM 7 Epe- Ijebu-Ode Road, Epe Local Government Area of the State. It is the first college of Education in Nigeria to be dedicated strictly to the training and certification of manpower for the primary School System.
The College formally took off on 1 December 1994 at the Government Guest House, Epe, with the appointment of the provost and three others principal officers, by the provisional Governing Council. The college moved to its permanent site immediately.
After extensive consultation with National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE) the college commenced its academic programmes in May 1995 with Pre-NCE Programme.
SCHOOLS

(a) SCHOOL OF ARTS
(b) SCHOOL OF EDUCATION
(c) SCHOOL OF LANGUAGES
(d) SCHOOL OF SCIENCES
(e) SCHOOL OF VOCATIONAL EDUCATION
(f) SCHOOL OF SOCIAL SCIENCES
In addition there are Directorates of Part-Time Studies and Preliminary Studies; each of the SIX SCHOOLS has a head as the Dean. While the Directorates of Part-Time and preliminary studies have Directors.
